Technical Safety Officer Maritime Operations

Would you like to turn your technical experience into a role where safety visibly makes a difference every day?

At NAVAL GROUP, you work in an international maritime environment where maintenance, repairs and technical activities take place both at the yard and on board vessels. As a Technical Safety Officer, you spend around 70% of your time on site, close to the people, the technology and the daily operations.

You understand what is happening technically, recognise risks and know why a situation can be dangerous. Based on that knowledge, you help employees and subcontractors work safely, address unsafe behaviour where needed and actively contribute to a strong safety culture.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Be present on the yard and on board vessels on a daily basis to monitor activities, risks and safety measures.
  • Carry out safety rounds, inspections and audits to identify unsafe situations and technical risks, and quickly implement the necessary corrective actions.
  • Address and raise awareness among employees and subcontractors, and ensure safety rules are applied correctly.
  • Prepare, update and follow up risk assessments, safety procedures and action points.
  • Monitor safety during maintenance and repair activities, including the safe isolation of work areas and technical installations.
  • Provide practical safety advice and discuss improvement points with Superintendents, technical staff, naval personnel, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure proper administrative follow-up and reporting on safety and prevention.

YOUR PROFILE

  • Strong technical background in shipping, marine engineering, industry, maintenance or complex technical worksites.
  • Experience as, for example, a Superintendent, maritime Project Manager, Engineer, Technical Specialist or in an operational role on board is a strong foundation.
  • Good technical understanding of areas such as mechanics, electricity, hydraulics, maintenance activities, working at height, heavy loads and technical spaces.
  • Strong interest in safety and prevention; previous experience in a formal safety role is not required.
  • Strong communication skills, a practical mindset and the ability to engage people clearly and convincingly in safe working practices.
  • Natural authority, assertiveness and, above all, a genuine passion for making safety visible and intervening when necessary.
  • Flexible, approachable and willing to spend most of your time on the work floor.
  • Good command of English; knowledge of Dutch and French is an advantage.

OUR OFFER

  • A permanent and varied position within an international and technically strong maritime organisation.
  • A competitive salary package with extra-legal benefits.
  • A high level of responsibility and direct impact on the safety of employees and operations.
  • Training opportunities and occasional travel to France and the Netherlands.
  • The opportunity to further develop your technical experience towards safety and prevention.
